  • December 15, 2022: Deadline for consideration for both University of Minnesota fellowships and Humphrey School merit-based aid
  • January 15, 2023: Deadline for consideration for Humphrey School merit-based aid

Eligibility Criteria for the University of Minnesota Fellowship for International Students

Listed below are the required criteria before you can get enrolled for the University of Minnesota Fellowship for International Students:

  • The required language is English
  • This scholarship is available for all countries
  • Applicants must present/submit two (2) letters of recommendation.
  • Applicants are to bring a copy of their valid international passport ID page.
  • Applicants are to submit a recent resume.
  • Applicants are to present all their undergraduate and graduate transcripts.
  • One personal photo (passport) is required
  • A valid Graduate Record Exam (GRE) score is required. No specific score is required (but aim for higher score)
  • English language proficiency certificate is required: Valid Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam scores with a minimum of 600 (paper-based), 250 (computer-based), 100 (Internet-based, minimum 22 on each section) on the TOEFL, or 7 for the IELTS.
  • Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a well-recognized academic institution in a related field of study.
  • Applicants must satisfy the entry requirements into the academic MDP program.
  • Applicants must demonstrate an excellent professional and academic track record.
  • Applicants must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills (extracurricular activities/community work/humanitarian activities/entrepreneurial initiative).
  • Applicants must demonstrate the inability to finance studies from their own resources (SES Students).
  • Previous coursework in mathematics, statistics, and economics is recommended, as these are key subjects required.

  • Contact Your Program of Interest: Programs that require certain materials may not review your application for admission until you submit the required materials to them.
  • Check Application Deadlines: To ensure your application is processed efficiently, we strongly recommend that you submit your completed application and all required materials at least three (3) weeks before the application deadline.
